April is National Autism Awareness
Month
Currently, over 1.5 million Americans are living with
the effects of autism, and in February 2007, the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention issued a report that
the prevalence of autism had risen to 1 in every 150
American children, and almost 1 in 94 boys.
Autism is a complex developmental disability
that typically appears during the first three years
of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate
and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain
set of behaviors and is a "spectrum disorder"
that affects individuals differently and to varying
degrees.

Gluten-Free, Casein-Free Diet
(no wheat symbol)
Eating a gluten-free, casein-free (GFCF) diet is one
of the major successful interventions for the treatment
of autistic spectrum disorders. At Native Sun, we carry
a wide variety of GFCF food options including baked
goods, breads and other treats that children diagnosed
with autism disorders often miss out on. See what we
have in-store for you!
GFCF Tagging System
In addition to our clearly marked GFCF sections, we
have a storewide color-coded tagging system for our
customers with special diets. When shopping for GFCF
products, look for the red and yellow boxes on our shelf
tags! We research every product we carry and require
written verification from our verndor that no gluten
or casein has been added.
Guided Walk Throughs
If your child has recently been diagnosed with an autism
disorder and you would like a tour of our store to learn
about all the GFCF options we offer, call 260-6950 to
set up a walk-through with our Food Education Coordinator,
Ginny Nehring.
